Reliability includes the user experience
A healthy pipeline does not guarantee a useful dataset. Reliability also means fresh, interpretable data, clear ownership, and predictable recovery when things go wrong.
Make failure visible
Give producers and consumers shared language for freshness, completeness, and correctness. Alert on user-impacting symptoms rather than every noisy internal event.
Design for recovery
Backfills, replays, and idempotency deserve first-class architecture. A pipeline should fail in ways operators can understand and safely correct.
Create trustworthy interfaces
Schemas, lineage, documentation, ownership, and service-level expectations help downstream teams understand what they can depend on.
